Positive Parenting "Essential Guidelines for Happy Parenting" -For parents of LKG & UKG Ms.Roslin Richard & Ms.Maria Reena 5 th February 2023 St. Joseph's School- CBSE A seminar on Positive Parenting, with the topic "Essential Guidelines for Happy Parenting" was conducted for Pre-Primary Parents of St. Joseph's School-CBSE, Bengaluru, on 5 th February 2023, Saturday at SJIPS Auditorium between 8.30am and 10.30am. Our resource for the seminar was Ms.Roslin Richard - an educational Psychologist, Graphologist and the in house school counselor of St. Joseph's School-CBSE, Bengaluru and by Ms. Maria Reena- a Clinical Psychologist and the in house Special Educator of St. Joseph's School-CBSE, Bengaluru. The registration was between 8.30am and 9am, and the session started at 9am sharp with prayer by Ms.Sneha. There were around 170 participants who took part in the seminar . Ms. Roslin Richard spoke about the essential guidelines for Happy parenting for around one hour 10 minutes, starting with what is positive parenting according to is always there and will be more likely to turn to them during tricky situations. The session was also focused on how parents has to empathies with their kids feelings, why it's good for children to learn about emotions, how to help their child learn about emotions and how play helps their kids to Socialize in the Classroom, highlighted on five steps to help their child calm down from a strong emotion, parents were also guided on few activities on how to improve concentration and attention in their children, the seminar has also brought out the important guidelines on handwriting to build fine motor skills, outcome of poor pencil grip and activities to enhance the same were also focused by the resource person. Ms. Maria Reena spoke about oral fixation for about 20 minutes which is associated with behaviors like nail- biting, lip licking, teeth grinding, excessive biting, etc., oral fixation can develop if oral needs aren't met. The parents were guided on how to manage their fixation. Also, the session was included on fostering language development in young children as children express their needs, emotions and through language, their frustration and tantrums can decrease and their social relationship can improve. Communication skills are also an important building block for academic and social success. The seminar ended with a vote of thanks by Ms. Sandra. Many parents gave the feedback that the seminar was very informative and useful. Positive Psychology and also according to the philosopher and psychiatrist Alfred Adler how children act healthy when they are encouraged and appreciated. The guidelines highlight how to reinforce the connection between parents and the child to maintain a level of trust so that their child can feel safe knowing their bond
