NEP Webinar

A NEP Webinar on the Changes and Challenges of the education policy was organized by St Josephs School, CBSE and Karnataka Jesuit Higher and Secondary Education Commission on the 27th of February 2021. The resource persons for the webinar were Ms. Aarthi Dinesh, Academic Head of Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir (SSRVM) Bangalore East along with Ms. Deepa Anand, Academic Head of Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir (SSRVM) Bangalore East and Rev Fr Rohan D Almeida, Principal of St Joseph s School CBSE and the Coordinator of Karnataka Jesuit Secondary Education Commission. Ms. Aarthi Dinesh, provided the highlights of the policy and critically analyzed it. She explained and clarified the transformational reforms that the policy aims for the school, student, teachers and the higher education and touched upon the key elements of NEP 2020, the universalization of education, new 5+3+3+4 design in the curricular structure (the relationship among them), the vision of NEP, the fundamental principles of NEP, the general objectives and the general fundamental objects of preparatory stage (she explained the in-depth skills involved in each stage). She also summed the Implication of the policy and the implementation details and the ground realities. The main emphasis was laid on digital education that didnt consider the current infrastructure and its inadequateness to support. She briefly touched upon the significance of NEP among the students in each stages, the assessment for learning and application of knowledge among the assessment in schools all over the country. Ms. Deepa Anand, highlighted the cognitive skills and skills development in children, the S.T.E.A.M (science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) model and its approaches, Physical and motor development, Nutrition and its importance of healthy eating behavior at schools and for students, Art integration and its importance into the curriculum for the subjects at schools, the impact of EK BHARATH SHRESHTA BHARATH PROGRAMME and she also explained about the need of this cultural programme which plays a vital role in schools. She explained the applications of cooperative learning, the social-emotional learning values and its key areas of development, emotional management, the 21st Century skills of how todays students can stay competitive in a changing job market and the importance of 3Ls- which includes the learning skills, literacy skills and life skills, holistic development of the students, 360 degree assessment (Teacher assessment, self-assessment and the peer assessment) and also explained the in-depth about the pros and the consequences. She mentioned about the impact of the rewards and role of the parents. They brought about a couple of main features of the policy with doubt and fear. It was a very informative, well explained and an eye opener for the participants. The webinar was attended by 570 participants which included the Parents, students and Teachers. The attendees had a lot of queries, to which the speaker welcomed and responded with examples. The webinar was well appreciated by all the participants.
