This year has been a year of trial and errors with a lot of learning, our teachers have been doing an excellent job with adapting and adopting to the new methods of teaching and are doing all that they can in their capacities to continue to impart knowledge to your children. Their outstanding efforts and novel initiatives has made St Joseph’s School CBSE one of the most sought after schools in Bangalore. Presenting the Annual Report of St Josephs School CBSE of the bygone academic year. St Josephs Indian Institutions managed by the Jesuits, is firmly built on the principle of Faith and Toil, has a legacy of undoubted and unprecedented service by educating the men and women of this society to become responsible and conscious citizens. We are blessed that in such a short span of time our school- St Josephs School, CBSE, has successfully etched a name for itself. St Josephs School CBSE was awarded as the Best in Extra-curricular activities at the Global Education Skills MSME and Entrepreneurship Summit Leadership Award 2020. Our Principal Rev Fr Rohan DAlmeida also won an award for his outstanding contribution to the community at the Global Education Skills MSME and Entrepreneurship Summit Leadership Award 2020. Our school saw a deluge of events throughout the academic year which witnessed the holistic development of the students. I would like to briefly take you through the plethora of events and activities done since June 2019. The Academic year 2019-20 began with the annual staff orientation programme by Rev. Fr Swebert DSilva and Fr Henry Saldanha SJ from 27-29th May, 2019. The chief objective of the seminar was to ensure that all the members of the staff are aligned with the Jesuit legacy, purpose, vision & mission of Jesuit education. On orientation programme was organised on the 30th May 2019 for the staff on Inclusive Education and Learning Difficulties – by the special educator Ms Maria Reena and the school counsellor Ms Sheela Balan. The academic advisor Ms Sherly Wilfred briefed the staff about the rules and regulations of the school. The session concluded with the newly appointed staff being formally welcomed. The Academic Year 2019-20 commenced from 1st June 2019 for the students of Class 1-10. The day was filled with excitement and anticipation as students met their new class teachers, went to new classrooms and interacted with their classmates. Little Josephites from UKG and LKG began their class on 6th and 7th June 2019 respectively. The Management and Staff warmly welcomed the tiny tots with utmost care and enthusiasm. Parents were assured that their children were in safe and experienced hands. World Environment Day was celebrated on 4th June 2019. The theme was Environment Pollution. Class 10 students presented a wonderful skit to spread awareness about Environment Pollution. Charts and placards were displayed to sensitize their fellow students about the impact of pollution on our environment. Health and Hygiene-Puberty Adolescent changes: Educative session on adolescent changes and puberty was conducted for girls from class 5 to class 10 on 4th June 2019. The session touched upon topics such as menarche, premenstrual changes, puberty and menstrual hygiene. This was conducted by Dr Glen Vaz from Cooper Hospital, Mumbai, school nurse Ms Austrilla Anupama Lobo and School counsellor Ms Sheela Balan. Parents Orientation Programme for the parents of the newly admitted students was held on 7 June 2019 in the school auditorium. The school staff and the rules & regulations of the Institution was briefed to the gathering by the Principal, through a PowerPoint presentation. The Investiture Ceremony signifying the reliance and confidence that the school consigns in the newly invested Captains and Vice Captains was witnessed by parents, teachers and students at a solemn ceremony on 19th June. International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June. The students of class 9 A conducted a special assemble emphasizing the importance of Yoga in our fast paced lives. Students were made aware that Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. The Annual Prize Day is held to recognize & appreciate the outstanding academic achievements of its students. The School celebrated its Annual Prize Day on Saturday, the 29th June, amidst great zest, vibrancy and elation. Retd. Air Marshal P Kanakaraj was the Chief Guest and Rev. Fr Leo Pereira SJ Rector, presided over the function. Curriculum Day was held on 22rd June, to communicate and make the parents of our students, aware of the comprehensive instructional-monitoring process and follow-up that includes curriculum pacing guide aligned to the CBSE syllabus. An informative and sensitizing seminar for the students of Class 9 and 10 on Peer pressure, stress management and abstinence from addictions was conducted by Ms Jaicy George from Qatapultt learning solutions on 4th July. The seminar threw light on various coping mechanisms as well as options for addressing any stressful situations through multiple activities. The enriching seminar concluded with useful tips to tackle peer pressure. Inauguration of Clubs On 8th July, various scholastic and co-scholastic clubs were inaugurated. The club activities play an integral role to ignite the young minds to accomplish various scholastic and co-scholastic areas of interest. The respective teachers briefly explained about the activities involved in the clubs they are in charge of. Farewell to the Former Principal, Rev Fr Sunil Fernandes Highly respected and well loved by his students as well as his teachers, Former Principal Rev Fr Sunils farewell was truly an emotional affair. The farewell programme was held on July 20th in the school boardroom. Parenting workshop A workshop on The stepping stones to success was conducted by Dr Debmita Dutta on 27th July for the parents of the students from pre primary to class 10 in the school auditorium Feast of St Ignatius of Loyola was celebrated by conducting a number of competitions all through the Ignatian Week. A special assemble was conducted on July 22nd by the students of class 7 C based on the values of Ignatius of Loyola. The Ignatian Week concluded with a solemn Eucharistic Celebration, which saw participation of the Parents, Students & Staff members. A routine health check-up for the students from KG to Class-10 was organised from 1st to 7th August 2019. A team of four doctors from St Philomena's Hospital carried out the check-up meticulously. The 73nd Independence Day was celebrated with unprecedented patriotic fervour on August 15th , in collaboration with all the other units of St Josephs Indian Institutions. Phonics workshop a training session on Phonics was organised on 17th August for the teachers of Kindergarten to class 4. Ms Lalitha Appachu, director of centre for training excellence was the resource person. The workshop aimed at equipping teachers with all that is needed to support the development of childrens early phonological awareness for later success in literacy. SUPW outreach programme The students of class 8 were taken to an old age home on 24 August to spend some quality time with the inmates as part of the outreach programme Annual Athletic meet was held on 31st September, with great zeal, excitement and frolicsome atmosphere. The programme began with the Principal Rev. Fr Rohan D’Almeida welcoming the esteemed gathering and emphasizing on the importance of sports in a childs life. The chief guest was Mr Ashish Ballal, Arjuna Awardee & Former Indian Hockey Captain. Students from various Jesuit institutions from all over Karnataka participated in inter-school events that were organised to promote collaboration & competitive spirit. Teachers' Day celebration in St Joseph's School (CBSE) is always a memorable event. The students organised a scintillating cultural show to express their love, regards and respect towards their teachers. The day had both emotional and recreational touch where students along with the PTA members utilized the occasion to express their appreciation for the teachers. Twinning program (Visit by Loyola CBSE School, Sindagi) Students and staff from Loyola CBSE school, Sindagi, visited St Joseph's Indian Institutions from 10th to 12th September 2019. The principal of Loyola CBSE School, visited SJII to collaborate, experience and understand the teaching-learning process from students & educators perspective. The staff and the students of St Joseph’s School, CBSE celebrated Hindi Diwas with great enthusiasm on 14th September. Series of competition were conducted for the students from Class 1- 10 to emphasise the significance of Hindi language; the prize winners were felicitated with medals and certificate. Tea with the Management is an excellent occasion to understand & get to know the collaborators. The event was held on 24th September which was attended by the priests and brothers of Inigo Sadan Community lead by Fr Leo Pereira, the Rector of SJII. The evening was well spent enabling the staff to know their management better vice-versa. Synergy is a fun-filled day which is interspersed with various activities for all the staff members. It is a break from the regular monotony to promote team building & bonding between colleagues. Synergy '18 was held on 26th September. The enthusiasm, energy and sportsman spirit was evident at the sporting field as all the staff members participated in the events of their choice and earned points for their respective teams. Staff training – inclusive education ‘making a diverse classroom learn’ A workshop on inclusive education was organised for the teachers in two sessions on 1st and 3rd October 2019. The facilitator was Ms Archana Sharma From Drishti Counselling Centre who enlightened the teachers that inclusive education is a way of thinking about how to be creative and make the classroom a happy place where all children can take part in the learning process. Gandhi Jayanthi was observed to pay tribute and commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of the Father of our Nation - Mahatma Gandhiji. Counsellor's Conclave 2019 The counsellor's conclave 2019 was organised at St Joseph's School Auditorium on October 18, 2019 by Bangalore Sahodaya Schools Complex. The theme of this conclave was "Understand Adolescents – Help make a better tomorrow". The conclave was attended by 250 participants from Sahodaya and other schools. The participants included Prinicpals, counsellor's teachers and students from psychology background. Principal's Day was celebrated on 26th October by the Management and staff to express love and gratitude towards the Principal on his Birthday. The students celebrated Principal’s Day through a special assembly in honour of the Principal 'Grandparents Day' was celebrated on Thursday, 4th October, to nurture the special & beautiful bond between the grandchild and the grandparent. The school quadrangle and basketball court was well decorated with balloons, charts with amazing quotes and banners to welcome the grandparents of the pre-primary students who were invited to take part in the celebration. Annual Science Exhibition - SCIPLORE was held on 11th November to provide a platform for our enthusiastic and inquisitive students to explore and discover science! The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr Sandra Misquith, Associate professor, department of chemistry, St Joseph's college, Bengaluru. The exhibits were judged by the judges and the winners were given medals and certificates. Children's Day was celebrated in the school premises with great enthusiasm. The teachers enthralled the students through dance and song. The Principal addressed the students enlightening them that childhood is an enchanting vista, an endless fun, a joyful classroom, an era of creativity and innovation. Jazz Music Concert St Joseph's school auditorium became a melting pot of two different cultures - Indian and Swedish - as Olimpias Orkan, a jazz music band from Sweden performed live at the school. Students grooved to the soothing yet compelling saxophone music and vibrant drum beats and joined the band in singing on 06th of November. Karnataka Rajyotsava was celebrated with enthusiasm in November. The entire campus was decked in the state colour. The chief guest, Mr Adiveppa Haalagi, Vice Principal of Loyola Pre-University College, Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru encouraged the students with his meaningful speech and a melodious song in kannada. Patriotic songs by students, dance and state anthem glorifying the culture and heritage of the state spread the beauty of Kannada language in the school. Several competitions were conducted across all classes to mark the importance of the official language of our state and prizes were distributed to the winners. Annual Day was celebrated on 23rd November 2019. The chief guest was Mr Anil Kumar, IAS, Serving as the commissioner of BBMP; Pro S Japhet, Vice Chancellor of Bengaluru Central University was the guest of Honour. Over 1000 students of the school presented the Dance Drama based on the theme "PARIVARTHAN" change of Hearts towards Nature and fellow human beings. The day was filled with the vibrancy and life being propelled into magnificent and reverberating celebrations. The day ended with an astounding visual treat and enthralled every spectator present. Constitution Day or Samvidhan Diwas was celebrated at St Joseph's School CBSE, to spread awareness about the Indian constitution. A special assembly was held to reinforce the same among the students. Christmas was celebrated on 20th & 21st December with great fervour and enthusiasm. The entire school vibrated with the echoes of Christmas carols. The boundless joy of celebrating Christmas was visible on the faces of all the students. Outreach Program the staff of St Joseph's School CBSE participated in a Christmas outreach program to Gerizim Mission India and need based India (SnehGhar) Shanthinagar on 17th and 21st December to spread love, joy, peace, faith & hope. Wish Tree This year's Christmas celebration had a novel concept of a wish tree which gave our students and their parents an opportunity to fulfil the wishes of the needy children/women/youth/community in Vijayapura through their generous voluntary contribution. 'CREATIVE SPLASH' was held on 5th January 2020. The exhibition touched upon art in its contemporary and traditional forms. The main objective of this exhibition was to showcase each student’s expression of their creativity. The Chief Guest Mr J M S Mani, an eminent artist of Karnataka, inspired the students to explore their aesthetic potential, play with their imagination and express themselves to become calmer and happier individuals. He went on to create a beautiful landscape on canvas with oil paints which was witnessed by the audience, after which he inaugurated the Art Exhibition. Thrills & Skills was held on the 7th and 8th of January to give students an opportunity to showcase their talents Fun and festivity marked the beginning of spring as the students took part in 'Colour the Sky' the Annual Kite Festival on 14th January. It was a visual treat as the entire campus and the sky was vibrant with various colorful crafts and many kites. The parents, staff and students had a great time and were very appreciative of the event. Parenting Session to equip parents with strategies to tackle the challenges they encounter as parents, parenting session for the parents of LKG to Class 8 was conducted in multiple sessions during the last week of January by the school counsellor Ms Sheela Balan. The 70th Republic Day was observed by unfurling our National Flag. Students presented a special assembly highlighting the fundamental rights. The principal addressed the students and enlightened them about the fundamental rights every Indian is entitled to enjoy. Valedictory Ceremony 2020 St joseph's school CBSE held its first valedictory ceremony for the students of Class 10, batch of 2019-20 on 1st February 2020. The chief guest for the occasion was Mr Clifford Pereira, Director of TV9 Network. The chief guest inspired words that envisioned their bright future which lay ahead for the batch about to make its way into a new phase of life. The valedictorians walked along the aisle with lit candles, a symbolic march which signifies the carrying forward the light of knowledge to the world as true ambassadors of St Joseph's School CBSE. Valedictory Ceremony will be marked in the school calendar as a special day, as the Josephite family bid fond farewell to the first outgoing batch of Class 10 students. International Women’s Day was celebrated to acknowledge the significant role played by all the women staff members in all facets of their lives. The Principal addressed the gathering and thanked all the staff members for going the extra mile for the family as well as the school. The celebration concluded with a sumptuous potluck lunch. Inter Religious Prayer Services are held in each term to promote Harmony, express gratitude and to enable each one to know that the essence of all religions is the same. The Principal addressed the students and advised them to be broad minded, inclusive, united & to be in Harmony with one another. Fun & Frolic days are held every month for the tiny tots of pre-primary on various topics to promote creative & fun learning Rector’s Farewell St Joseph’s Indian Institutions bid farewell to the Rector Rev Fr Leo Pereira on 22nd May 2020 in the school boardroom. Fr Leo was overwhelmed by the efforts put in by the support staff to exhibit the farewell during a period of the pandemic. Class 10 Cent Percent Results – Maiden century by St Joseph's School CBSE. Excellence in academics or extra-curricular activities has been a hallmark of St Joseph's School CBSE, Bengaluru. This has been proved by our first batch of Class 10 students who have secured cent percent results in CBSE Board Exams. The Management, Staff and PTA Members appreciate and congratulate all the students for their outstanding performance. These were the surfeit of activities done over the last academic year which was well appreciated by all. With the earnest effort to excel and to provide quality education for the wholesome development of our students, Team SJSCBSE is striving hard towards Excellence.
