Panel Discussion on Back to School

A panel discussion was initiated by Collins on Integrating blended learning in the classroom. The panelists being expertise, well experienced on the topic tabled their thoughts on the scope and importance of blended learning out of their rich experience and knowledge. It was a learning to provide personalized and competency based learning with many tools. It was a need to move from a push strategy to a pull strategy using the facilitators. A mind revolutionized among children and parents.
Mr. Anil Kuma, touched upon the difference between rote learning and concept-based learning. Unlike rote learning, blended learning allows the students to learn at their own pace. It gives the students responsibility where teacher is just a facilitator, helps to empower students to make learning in and beyond the classroom anywhere and at anytime, personalized pathways uniqueness to use the resources at varying degrees building confidence in every student.
Ms.Aruna Visvessvar, opined that the need of the hour is to propel the students to be masters of their destiny. Education of 21stcentury must be teachers led and pupil driven and as a teacher we should constantly reflect on our methods of teaching like introducing Kahoot so that all could be involved in and around the family also changing art work to an animated intervention. It is also important to change the mindset so as to encourage personalized learning path way, masters of their own destiny and to make learning click.
Ms.Deepa Chandran gave a call to the educators to unlearn, relearn and restart. She also orated that teacher's role of is centralised. Pedagogy should be of creativity which is very important and the right model of blended learning to be used.
Ms.Latha Prakash, insisted that all the educators need to infuse thoughts in students to help them learn and think independently and also voiced out the importance of open-ended techniques, explicit instructions which helps to broaden their scope. Examples like Flip learning, peer learning where the teacher can only be a facilitator.
Fr Rohan D'Almeda. An optimistic view of the situation father, brought out a new meaning to the acronym VUCA by changing Volatility to vision, Uncertainty to understanding, Complexity to clarity, and Ambiguity to adoptability. He stressed on the importance of blended learning, and also emphasized on parents being collaborators of education as they need to work together with teachers to facilitate their ward's education, making school a miniature society. 'The whole world has become a classroom.' Visiting guest and lectures of experience to teach other schools where there were no teachers. Learning is not age specific but with it is a lifelong learning.
