Positive Parenting Session

March 01, 2025

St. Joseph's School organized a Positive Parenting session on 1st March, 2025 for parents of Classes 6 to 12. The sessions began with a warm welcome and a short prayer followed by the introduction and felicitation of the Resource Person for the day, Dr. Sandra Sunitha Lobo, a highly accomplished professor with a strong background in psychology. She actively conducts workshops for teachers and students, speaks at PTA meetings, and administers psychometric tests. As a counselor at Sparsh Counselling Centre, she provides guidance to parents, students, and the public. The session on positive parenting emphasized the importance of raising children with love, accountability, and guidance while maintaining a friendly yet firm approach. Parents were encouraged to be role models, fostering motivation in various aspects of their children's lives. Open communication, sharing values, and instilling faith were highlighted as ways to strengthen the parent-child bond. The discussion also addressed the importance of mental health awareness, advocating for setting rules with flexibility and prioritizing emotional connection before correction. Another key focus was on emotional intelligence, encouraging the use of "I" statements to avoid blame and build trust. Parents were advised to appreciate small achievements, allow freedom within limits, and educate children about cyber safety. Discipline was framed as a teaching tool rather than punishment, emphasizing guidance and fair consequences. Overall, the session reinforced that positive parenting involves balancing love, discipline, and communication to create a supportive and nurturing environment.
