Positive Parenting Session

May 24, 2025

St Joseph's School CBSE Bangalore organised a Positive Parenting Session at the start of a new academic year on 24 May 2025 for parents of Class 8 to Class 10 in the SJIPS Auditorium from 9 am to 10.15 am. The program commenced with a prayer song, setting a reflective and respectful tone for the event. Following this, Vice Principal Sister Sheena welcomed the gathering and introduced esteemed Principal Rev. Fr. Melwyn Anil Lobo, SJ. Ms. Sheila then took the stage to introduce the resource person, Mr. William Anthony Raj Gali. Mr. William Anthony Raj Gali is a distinguished professional with over 25 years of experience working with vulnerable children and their communities at various levels – grassroots, national, and international with a background spanning across child engagement, programme management, organizational development, advocacy, and capacity building in both India and East Africa. In his insightful session, Mr. William emphasized that every child is unique, and it is essential for parents to recognize and nurture this individuality. He highlighted the importance of self-care for parents, encouraging them to evaluate their well-being in areas such as health, social relationships, and spiritual practices, as these aspects directly influence their parenting. The session also covered the four key parenting styles – Authoritative, Authoritarian, Permissive, and Uninvolved. Mr. William educated parents on the significance of understanding their children’s physical and emotional development, especially during adolescence. He discussed the functioning of the teenage brain, the common challenges teens face, and the critical role of empathy and emotional connection in effective parenting. Additionally, he addressed concerns around social media and the negative effects of excessive Internet usage, urging parents to guide their children responsibly and ensure a safe digital environment. The session concluded with closing thoughts from the Father Principal, who shared his insights on positive parenting. The program ended with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the speaker and all participants for their presence and involvement.
