Positive Parenting Session IX to XII

July 22, 2023

"The golden rule of parenting is to do unto your child as you wish your parents had done unto you" - Louis Heart
On 22nd July 2023 Saturday, St Joseph's School (CBSE) organised a workshop for the parents of Classes 9 to 12 at SJIPS Auditorium between 10.30 am and 12.30 pm. The positive parenting session was intended to give insights and suggestions to parents to help them understand their wards better and journey with them as they develop into good human beings.
The session began as Ms. Sheeba welcomed the gathering while Ms. Sheeja invoked God's blessings upon the resource person and the parents to gain more insight on the topics to be discussed.
Ms. Tina introduced the resource person of the day Mr. Muralidhar Koteshwar who was felicitated by the Vice Principal, Sr. Sheena. Mr. Muralidhar Koteshwar is the CEO of Uplad and SimpliTrain, Chief advisor at Pod.Ai, Director of Connecting the Dots, Founding Secretary of the Advanced Computing Society of India.
Mr. Muralidhar began with introducing the gathering to the natural qualities that all children are born with such as self-confidence, honesty, unbounded energy and enthusiasm to learn and how as parents and teachers it becomes our duty to nurture these qualities as they grow into adults. He gave parents the scientific evidence to show how positive interactions can benefit the children as opposed to negative inputs. He emphasised how while dealing with adolescents, we need to Respect them and have Trust in them to help them develop a healthy conscience. He said that adolescents thrive when they receive acceptance of their emotions and their behaviours while being corrected with the right attitude.
He introduced the parents to the difference between inspiration and motivation with a fun activity. He stressed on the importance of a strong foundation in academics while also engaging in creative pursuits
He went on to explain the importance of exploring various career options based on the child's interests and passion. He concluded the session by teaching the gathering a few techniques to improve their energy levels as well as manage emotions.
Gratitude is a way of expressing joy. Ms. Divya K proposed the vote of thanks and thanked the resource person, the parents and all the staff involved in organising the informative session.

Feedback
"The session was very appropriate. A lot of correlation to what we are experiencing on a day-to-day basis. There were a lot instances I could pick where we could make some kind of improvement on parenting in areas where we are facing some challenges. The exercises that we went through were also informative and good. Personally, I have experienced some of the real time examples what Mr. Murali gave such as giving positive feedback in times of failure which helped my son achieve very good results".
Parent of Child: Nathan Pinto

Feedback
"I learnt about communicating positively with the child and not in anger".
