Anecdote of Reaching Out to the Unreached

September 22, 2023

The best way the students of class 11 'B' lost themselves was in service at the SR Nagar Government School on September 22nd , 2023, at the outreach program "UJJWALA," doing the smallest act of kindness, which is worth more than the grandest intention ,of interacting with the students in a fun-loving way and educating them about health and hygiene.
They had the opportunity to interact with the students from classes 1 to 7. Initially, language was a barrier, but it didn't take much time to break the barrier as the need for words was substituted with songs, dances, and games. We can say that the students of both schools were left with an incredible experience.
Apart from having fun, the students were educated about health and sanitation. In addition to sharing knowledge about menstruation, the session focused on eradicating the stigma associated with it. The interaction with the students and their teaching us how to play various games served as a reminder that there is always more for us to learn from one another.
We are truly grateful to our principal, Rev. Rohan D'Almeida, for enhancing education from the portals of the school to the outside world we live in. Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation's compassion, unselfish caring, patience, and just plain love for one another.
"We had a great time connecting with the government school students and will surely play the games they taught us again," says Surya.
The students were obliging and well-behaved, adds Tanmaya, and we will treasure our time with them. The outreach program has provided us with an educational and experiential opportunity.
