A Career Guidance Session was organised by St. Joseph's School on Saturday, 24 February 2024 at SJIPS Auditorium for the parents of the students of Classes 9-12 between 10:30 am and 1:00 pm. The session commenced with an acknowledgment of the challenges inherent in the profession-selection process and the traditional expectation of children fulfilling their parents' dreams. It was emphasized that in today's generation, allowing children the space to pursue their passions and aspirations is paramount, rather than imposing predetermined career paths upon them. To illustrate the potential of the human mind, an interactive activity was conducted, demonstrating the power of the mind to achieve desired outcomes when appropriately challenged. The narrative then transitioned to the story of Thomas Alva Edison, underscoring the pivotal role of parenting in nurturing and facilitating a child's aspirations. Addressing the prevalent issue of exam anxiety, parents were encouraged to provide their children with both space and support during exam periods. Another mind-stimulating activity reinforced the idea that the mind is capable of overcoming challenges when adequately motivated. A case study exemplifying the transformative impact of parental trust and support on a child's career trajectory was presented. It underscored the importance of parental guidance, encouragement, and fostering an environment conducive to exploration and self-discovery. The session provided an overview of various career streams, including science, engineering, medical courses, civil services, and professional certifications such as Chartered Accountancy. The duration, prospects, and resource implications of each career path were discussed to aid parents in informed decision-making. Specific guidance was offered regarding the preparation for competitive exams such as the IAS, CA, and defense examinations. The importance of early preparation and simultaneous pursuit of academic degrees aligned with the child's interests was emphasized. Additional career avenues in fields such as marketing, informatics, AI, computer science, banking, finance, and income tax were explored. Parents were encouraged to instill dreams, hope, and vision in their children while guiding them to explore their strengths and passions. An interactive session allowed for clarifications and further discussions, facilitating a deeper understanding of the subject matter. The representatives of education services companies present on site helped parents understand overseas study options as well as courses related to design. In conclusion, the session aimed to equip parents with the knowledge and insights necessary to support their children in navigating the complexities of career choices and pursuing their dreams with confidence and determination.
