Positive Parenting Session (LKG to Class 5)

St Joseph's School (CBSE) organised a seminar for the parents of Classes LKG to Class 5on 17th February 2024 at SJIPS Auditorium between 9:00 am and 1:00pm in 2 sessions with a short 30 minitue break. Positive Parenting seminars are intended to give insights and tools to parents to help them journey with their wards with better understanding and empathy as they navigate their childhood.
Ms Prerana set the mood with a warm welcome which was followed by a prayer to invoke divine blessings on all the parents as well as the resource person so as to help them find better understanding to various challenges faced by their wards.
Ms Sheila Emmanuel introduced the resource person of the day Ms. Phyllis Farias,an educational consultant, counsellor and trainer who was felicitated by the Vice Principal Sr.Sheena. The Guest was accompanied by the academic coordinators on the dais.
The 1st session for Classes LKG to 2 laid greater emphasis on early development needs of young children, the need for parental involvement in day to day activities and emotional support. The session commenced with a brief anecdotal reflection on the physical growth of young children, highlighting the significance of physical activities in fostering healthy motor development. The speaker also touched upon emotional development, underscoring the role of socialization, play, and activities such as story-telling in nurturing healthy emotional well-being. Sensory experiences and perception were emphasized through relatable anecdotes, while spiritual development and instilling positive values were discussed to underscore psychological growth, including resilience and independence in children. The importance of maintaining open communication as a parent, while maintaining a friendly yet authoritative role, was stressed upon.
The 2nd session for parents of Class 3 to Class 5 in addition, stressed on the needs of older children, bringing awareness to puberty and its concerns as well as management of screen time.
The session concluded with a short activity to drive home the importance of modelling the right behavior we wish for children to emulate. The Q&A session gave parents the opportunity to their clarify doubt.
Ms.Maria Reena proposed the vote of thanks and thanked the audience, resource person and all the staff who were involved in the organisation of the program.
